Stan is a native Californian who started college at the University of California Santa Barbara, fell in love with the area and later returned to make Santa Barbara his home. Like most Californians, Stan’s hobbies are active ones, many of which take advantage of Santa Barbara’s Mediterranean climate. Stan enjoys tennis, hiking, jogging, spinning, car shows, snow skiing, snowshoeing, backpacking, numerous visits to volunteer in Yosemite and world traveling, all with adventurous partner Teresa.
Stan grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and from an early age enjoyed most summers and holidays living in Yosemite National Park, where his mother worked. While in high school Stan rescued an elderly man from a burning car (which a minute later exploded, just like in the movies), and was awarded the Young Californian Medal for Bravery by Governor Reagan who nominated him for the National award. After high school, Stan lived in Yosemite Valley during the summers and holidays, working his way through college and starting rock climbing in 1969. After graduating from the University of California Berkeley with a Degree in Environmental Studies, Stan went on to live and work in a place he loves, Yosemite. He credits his Yosemite experiences with teaching him the importance of staying on top of every detail to give his customers a quality experience that they would seldom forget. You will notice this in his work today as he is enthusiastic, optimistic, realistic, dedicated and very successful in being his client’s ally and advocate in a complex real estate marketplace.
After moving to Santa Cruz, California, Stan earned his Real Estate Salesperson License and started his sales career on February 7, 1980 in one of the largest real estate firms in the Santa Cruz/San Jose area. Even through the early 1980’s housing slump, Stan was an immediate success winning his company’s 1980 “Rookie of the Year” award. By 1983, Stan had obtained a second Degree in Business, his Real Estate Broker License and was representing Buyers and Sellers while also operating a property management company.
Returning to Santa Barbara in early 1984, Stan joined what was then Merrill Lynch Realty and in January 1985 received the “Top Dollar Associate” award for Santa Barbara County. Stan received many company awards over the years including: #1 agent in Coldwell Banker’s Santa Barbara office, Top 1% of Agents Nationwide, California’s Top 100 and Top 1,000 Nationwide. The Santa Barbara Association of Realtors honored Stan with the Distinguished Realtor award and he later went on to serve on their Board of Directors. In 2015 Stan was honored to be chosen to be the Realtor of the Year out of 1,200+ agents by the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors. Stan was excited to become the founding broker of the Montecito Compass office in January 2016 and moved to the new downtown Santa Barbara office in 2019.
Stan graduated from the Realtors Institute of California (GRI) in 1989, earned the coveted Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation in 1996, the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation in 2001 and the Green Resource Council (GRC) in 2016. Fewer than 6% of agents nationally have all four of these designations. Also in 2001, Stan was designated as an Architectural Properties Specialist for his focus on selling distinctive properties. Stan’s quest for continuing education demonstrates his interest in providing quality representation to all his clients.
It is said in real estate sales that getting through the first few transactions may be easy, but you will really know you have done your job well when clients continue to come back to you and refer you to new clients. Stan credits his success and reputation to his attention to detail, professionalism, integrity, communication skills, ability to anticipate challenges, creative marketing skills, tactical negotiating skills and strong commitment to be available to work with his clients. Stan’s proactive approach helps his clients navigate smoothly, efficiently and confidently through complex real estate transactions; clients know they can rely on him. Stan far surpasses what you might expect in a real estate broker.
Stan treats his clients as he would like to be treated himself and it is no surprise that many are now long-term friends. Stan has found a unique way in which to incorporate his professional skills with his personal passion for the Santa Barbara area to become one of Santa Barbara’s most respected real estate brokers. With his patient attitude and his ability to guide his clients, Stan far surpasses what you might expect in a real estate broker.
