Stan is a native Californian who started college at the University of California Santa Barbara, fell in love with the area and later returned to make Santa Barbara his permanent home. Like most Californians, Stan’s hobbies are active ones, many of which take advantage of our Mediterranean climate. Stan enjoys running, tennis, hiking, car shows, snow skiing, snowshoeing, backpacking, numerous visits to volunteer in Yosemite and world traveling, all with adventurous partner Teresa.
Stan grew up in the San Francisco Bay area and from an early age enjoyed most summers and holidays living in Yosemite National Park, where his mother worked. While in high school Stan rescued an elderly man from a burning car (which a minute later exploded, just like in the movies), was awarded the Young Californian Medal for Bravery by then Governor Reagan and was one of five Californians nominated for the National award. After high school, Stan lived in Yosemite Valley during the summers and holidays, working his way through college and starting rock climbing in 1969. After transferring to and graduating from the University of California Berkeley with a Degree in Environmental Studies, Stan went on to live and work in Yosemite for an additional five years. He credits his Yosemite experiences with teaching him the importance of staying on top of every detail to give his customers a quality experience that they would not forget. You will notice this in his work today as he is enthusiastic, optimistic, realistic, dedicated and very successful in being his client’s ally in a complex real estate marketplace.
After moving to Santa Cruz on the coast of California, Stan earned his Real Estate Salesperson License and started his sales career on February 7, 1980 with one of the largest real estate firms in the Santa Cruz/San Jose area. Even through the early 1980’s housing slump, Stan was an immediate success winning his company’s 1980 “Rookie of the Year” award. By 1983, Stan had obtained a second Degree in Business, his Real Estate Broker License and was representing Buyers & Sellers while also operating a property management company.
Returning to Santa Barbara in early 1984, Stan joined Merrill Lynch Realty and in January 1985 received the “Top Dollar Associate” award for Santa Barbara County. The company’s name changed many times over the years to what is now known as Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. Stan received many company awards over the years; he was consistently in the top 1% of agents nationwide and in 1994, 2000, 2001 and 2012 was awarded the California “Top 100” award for his production. In May 2012, August 2012, November 2012 and November 2013 & 2014 Stan was awarded the “Top 1000 Sales Associates” out of 41,000+ Coldwell Banker agents nationwide. In December 2009, Stan was presented with The Distinguished Realtor award by the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors. In November 2013, Stan was elected to the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors. For the 2013 year, Stan was named the #1 Agent in Santa Barbara’s Coldwell Banker office. In December 2015, he was honored to be chosen the “Realtor of the Year” by the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors, 1 out of 1,200+ agents.
Stan is excited to now be associated with Compass since January 2016, a forward thinking technology-driven real estate company with offices in New York City, the Hamptons, Miami, Boston, Los Angeles, Malibu, Washington D. C., Santa Barbara, Montecito, Aspen, Newport Beach and San Francisco. Many more offices are in the planning stages in major cities around the country.
Stan graduated from the Realtors Institute of California (GRI) in 1989, earned the coveted Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation in 1996, the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) designation in 2001 and the Green Resource Council (GRC) in 2016. Fewer than 6% of agents nationally have all four of these designations. Also in 2001, Stan was designated as an Architectural Properties Specialist for his focus on selling distinctive properties. Stan’s quest for continuing education demonstrates his interest in providing quality representation to all clients.
It is said in real estate sales that getting through the first few transactions may be easy, but you will really know you have done your job well when clients continue to come back to you and refer you to new customers. Stan credits his success to his extensive research, ability to anticipate problems, flexibility in his schedule, tactical negotiating skills and strong commitment to be available to work with both Buyers and Sellers. Stan’s hands-on approach helps his clients smoothly and confidently navigate complex real estate transactions and continues to ease any stress they may have.
It is Stan’s impeccable reputation, professionalism, experience, attention to detail and integrity along with his proven marketing skills that make him so successful in the Santa Barbara real estate market. Stan treats his clients as he would like to be treated himself and it is no surprise that many are now long-term friends. Stan’s clients benefit from his honest, realistic, creative and concise approach to listing and selling real estate.
Stan has found a unique way in which to incorporate his professional skills with his personal passion for the Santa Barbara area to become one of Santa Barbara’s most respected Brokers. With his attention to detail, his patient attitude and his ability to make himself available to give advice or just to listen, Stan far surpasses what you might expect in a real estate Broker.
