The Samarkand neighborhood of Santa Barbara is nestled between State Street and Highway 101, between Las Positas Road and Alamar Avenue.  Built mostly in the late 1930's though the 1940's on a series of small knolls, the area gains its name from a large hotel, The Samarkand, that used to operate there but is now a retirement community.  Close to town and generally architecturally diverse, the neighborhood retains it original charm.  Check 93105 for house values, home sales graph and social/economic data.
