Hope Ranch: Laguna Blanca

Hope Ranch: Front Entrance

Outside the Santa Barbara area, Hope Ranch remains the relatively unknown  younger sister to Montecito.  Many locals consider Hope Ranch to be on par with Montecito, and in some respects better than Montecito.  Located on 2,200 acres just West of the City of Santa Barbara, Hope Ranch has a rich history; 360 Canary Island Palms were planted along Las Palmas and Marina Drives in 1904, the 'Ranch' was divided into acre+ parcels in 1925 and estate development began in earnest in the late-1920's. The majority of the Canary Island Palms still tower majestically over the roads, creating a canopy as you enter though the stone pillars. With mostly private roads, a gated & private beach park, 32 miles of horse trails, tennis courts and a private security patrol, Hope Ranch remains much smaller, quieter and less commercial than Montecito, yet is only a 5 minute drive into the City of Santa Barbara.

Hope Ranch: Original Hope House

Thomas and Delia Hope purchased the 'Ranch' in 1861 for $8,000, brought in 5,000 head of sheep to graze the land, started a prosperous wool business and built the Hope House in 1875. Later, the Hope Ranch Homes Association was formed to plan, maintain and protect the newly subdivided 1,850 acres within the 1924 boundaries and used the Hope House as its headquarters until 1962. Laguna Blanca School was founded in 1933 on 22 acres within the ranch and remains a well regarded private school to this day. There are 771+/- total parcels in Hope Ranch with 714+/- member owners with estate lot sizes ranging from 1 acre to 35 acres. Approximately 2,000 residents can call it "home".

Hope Ranch: Hope Ranch Beach
The equestrian trails and private access to Hope Ranch Beach set Hope Ranch apart from the better known Montecito area. The gated beach is accessed with use of a "beach card" only available to Hope Ranch residents and their guests. A limited access beach with its own red-tiled-roof bathhouse, restrooms and showers is a rarity on the California Coast and one of the main attractions offered by Hope Ranch.  Water rating of 'A' for last summer.

Entrance to Hope Ranch BeachLa Cumbre Country Club was established in 1916 features a classic red tiled roof clubhouse with an 18 hole golf course which surrounds the picturesque lake, Laguna Blanca, which provides a haven for waterfowl as well as a challenge to the golfing membership. From the clubhouse, enjoy panoramic views of Santa Barbara Harbor, the Santa Ynez Mountains and the fairways that surround you.
